06/12/04 - Show #25: One Year Old!

Greetings and welcome to the 25th show of Does My Geek Look Big In This? We're one year old, hooray!! Well, we've made it this far and with your continued support we'll make it through next year. This first 12 months has been a real learning experience for us, including such odd topics as learning the nuances of audio compression, what makes a good edit 'good', and how to speak for an hour without swallowing one's tongue. One thing that's been constant throughout the year is the enjoyment. We love what we do, and a large part of that comes from you lot. So we're going to take this opportunity to say a big thank you to everyone who has ever listened, given up time on their own show to play our promos, sent us feedback, or any of the myriad other ways in which people have helped and encouraged us. Thank you and enjoy the show!

06/11/19 - Show #24: From The Mouths Of Weasels

Greetings and welcome to the 24th show of Does My Geek Look Big In This? Only a week has passed since the last show and we still find stuff to talk about. Hopefully you'll notice that we sound different this week. That's because we've been spending quite a bit of time recently on improving the audio quality of the show and we really hope you like the results. By the way, check out the uber cool intro from a certain Star Trek actor - thanks to all at Fist Full Of Comics (and games) for that. Enjoy!

  • Big thankyou's to Shel for providing us with Laughing Leprechaun from the Hampshire Brewery, which we'll be pitting against the might of Double Dragon, by the Felinfoel Brewery.

  • Promo - The Square One Podcast.

  • Planning a game is top of the agenda today. We're divided on our approach to RPG planning so we thought we'd talk about it.

  • Perhaps this should be the Movies and T.V. section? Anyway, we were recently introduced to Torchwood, a spin-off of the latest Dr Who series (thanks to Phazedout for that!). Does it maintain the high standards set by it's parent show? Find out inside.

06/11/10 - Show #23: An Englishman In New York

Greetings and welcome to the 23rd show of Does My Geek Look Big In This? Big huge gigantic apologies for the lateness of this website update! Things are really topsy turvy here at the moment. But we hope to get everything back in order soon, so expect the next show to be out in a week. Phew, on to the next item on the to-do list... Enjoy!

  • Thanks go to Katie for providing us with Pale Ale from the Samuel Smith Brewery, which we'll be comparing with Red Spot, our latest batch of homebrew.

  • Promo - ZomCast.

  • We talk about the online community game that has been taking up most of our time lately - Second Life - starting with an excellent summary review by Sersie.

  • No movie this week. Instead we discuss Nev's recent trip to the U.S.A. We find out about New York, typical American breakfasts and how not to navigate in the dark.

06/10/22 - Show #22: V For Very Drunk

Greetings and welcome to the 22nd show of Does My Geek Look Big In This? Once again a pretty long show. We have a great announcement to make, which you'll hear, along with loads of listener submissions! This was another fun one for us, although the 15 year old whisky we imbibed beforehand might have helped us along the way. Anyway, enough of that, on with the show. Enjoy!

  • Wheat beers take centre stage this week. Bea (rapidly becoming known as the show's Beer Angel) has sent us Aventinus Weizen Eisbock and Aventinus, both from the Schneider Brewery in Kelheim, Germany.

  • Promo - Groovy Gamers Groovecast.

  • Lazy day for us! Dustin Cooper has submitted an excellent review of Kobolds At My Baby, the roleplaying game about everyone's favourite XP supply. We also announce our involvement with GenConUK 2007, as the official podcast providers to the event!!

  • Near the far end of the alphabet, we review V For Vendetta, the comic book adaption that hit our screens earlier this year. It's directed by James McTeigue and was adapted for cinema by the Wachowski Brothers. Is it any good? We find out.

06/10/07 - Show #21: Whisky Fueled Fun

Greetings and welcome to the 21st show of Does My Geek Look Big In This? This has the distinction of being our longest show ever! We thought that, seeing as it's our first show after the Shaken Not Stirred series, we'd give you all a little extra. Everything is exactly as we left it - beer in the beer section, games in the middle and some moving-picture stuff right at the end. There's also a listener review in there too, which is something that we love to recieve. Getting you, the listener, involved always puts a smile on our faces. Anyway, on with the show. Enjoy!

06/09/24 - Show #20: Does My Comic Look Big In This?

Greetings and welcome to the 20th show of Does My Geek Look Big In This? Well, we promised you something special after we got back from our holiday and here it is! Weirdbeard had a little 'accident' whilst fiddling with his new MZ3 player, and managed to muddle up several of his favourite podcasts and their hosts. As a result, rather than hear our dulcit tones, this show will be hosted by the ever-gorgeous team from Fist Full Of Comics (and games), our sister podcast from across the pond. The boys have done an excellent job with this one. It's often hilarious, sometimes enlightening, but always great fun. We loved hearing what FFOCAG did with DMGLBIT (we're not the only ones who should have chosen a shorter name :-) and we hope you do too. By the way, in case you're wondering what happened to us, we're over at The Harping Monkey Inn presenting Misfit Brew, but don't fret, we'll be back in 2 weeks with show #21. Until then, enjoy!

06/09/02 - Show #19: Strong Beer And Rocket Fuel

Greetings and welcome to the 19th show of Does My Geek Look Big In This? We were very excited about this show, as we got to try a very strong beer that we've heard so much about and yet never had the chance to drink. Well, the result was pretty amusing! It might possibly be a reason why this one was a little shorter than usual, but we hope it doesn't mar your enjoyment. Anyway, take it easy, we hope you like the show.

  • We have a super special beer to try - Arrogant Bastard Ale from the Stone Brewing Company (supplied by Bea, thank you!!) which we'll be comparing with Broadside, from Adnams.

  • Promo - International Detective Dragons From Outer Space.

  • This week we discuss levels of player involvement in roleplaying games. Just how can you get all the players involved, all the time?

  • We talk about a classic movie, Breakfast At Tiffany's, starring Audrey Hepburn, George Peppard and directed by Blake Edwards.

06/08/21 - Show #18: Podcasting On A School Night

Greetings and welcome to the 18th show of Does My Geek Look Big In This? A bit of a lazy show for us this week as the gaming section is mostly a submission by one of you lot! We also get to sample a listener submitted ale, which adds to the overall alcohol content of the show, thus creating the silliness which followed. Enjoy!

06/08/09 - Show #17: Getting Right Innuit

Greetings and welcome to the 17th show of Does My Geek Look Big In This? We had a super lazy one this week and decided to record the show on the iRiver, rather than pootle about for an hour with the mics (it had been a long day at work and we were knackered!). You're still all managing to surprise us with the sheer volume of feedback that we get and we love it, thank you. Anyway, all the usual things are in place so sit back, pour yourself a cellar temperature ale and enjoy the show. :-)

  • We experience the many delights of White Wych Ale and Hobgoblin, from The Wychwood Brewery.

  • Promo - Misfit Brew.

  • Nev talks about a new 3.5 Ed. D&D game that he's putting together.

  • Back to films again and this week sees us going over the highs and lows of Sky High, directed by Mike Mitchell.

06/07/23 - Show #16: Atmosphere In Space

Greetings and welcome to the 16th show of Does My Geek Look Big In This? Strong beer steers us towards more silliness, although we manage to keep on going despite the recording session being gatecrashed by a neighbour's cat. We hope you like the new look of the website and if you'd like to offer any comments then feel free to sling 'em our way. Hope you enjoy the show!

  • Our thanks go to Lucien for donating the brews this week. We get our tastebuds around John Hampden's Ale and Battle Of Britain Ale, both from The Chiltern Brewery.

  • Promo - Sons Of Kryos.

  • Creating atmosphere during a game can be challenging, yet will significantly improve upon any RPG experience. But how do you do it?

  • Once again, a slight deviation from the norm sees us reviewing one of the best series ever conceived. We are talking, of course, about Spaced, the brainchild of Simon Pegg and Jessica Stevenson.

06/07/09 - Show #15: Are You Sure This Is Beer?

Greetings and welcome to the 15th show of Does My Geek Look Big In This? We had a really good time recording this one. Plenty of beer flowed throughout, and we truly enjoyed the enormous quantity of listener emails and Odeo's. Keep 'em coming! :-)

  • Listener Audio Play - Submitted by the talented Anim5.

  • Ooo la la! We go all continental this week, reviewing Adelscott Biere au Malt a Whisky and Pelforth Brune, both from France.

  • Promo - Share The Pain
    7th Son: Descent.
    Infection.

  • Brainstorming session part VI. And now to combine the previous five ideas into one, fantastic, plot.

  • Ahoy there! We recently saw Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest, directed by Gore Verbinski, so we thought we'd put it under the microscope.

06/06/25 - Show #14: Flying Whilst Brewing

Greetings and welcome to the 14th show of Does My Geek Look Big In This? In an effort to release the show as quickly as possible, we have put off the update of the website, which is why you may have spotted that these shnotes are a little late in coming. Anyway, this one was great fun to do as we had lots of listener feedback to go over; and if there's one thing that we simply love, it's getting emails and voicemails from you lot. So keep it coming! :-) Enjoy the show.

06/06/10 - Show #13: How To Lift A Sneck And Other Portal Fastenings

Greetings and welcome to the 13th show of Does My Geek Look Big In This? Another all-in-one-take show! There was plenty of correspondance to go through for this one, which is something we love doing. It's always great to hear from you, our listeners. It's warming up for the summer, and our English blood can't quite take the heat. So if we sound like we're about to pass out from heat exhaustion then we probably are :-). Anyway, we hope you enjoy the show!

  • Todays brewery is Jennings Brewery, providing us with the opportunity to sample Sneck Lifter and Cumberland Ale.

  • Promo - Fist Full Of Comics (and games).

  • Brainstorming session part IV. And now for a potential ally which the characters may, or may not, befriend.

  • Anyone seen Matrix: Revolutions? Written and directed by the Wachowski Brothers, how does the last in the trilogy stand up to its predecessors?

  • Closing Tune - Foggy Dew, by Christi and Dustin Cooper.

06/05/29 - Show #12: Do Otters Drink Beer?

Greetings and welcome to the twelfth show of Does My Geek Look Big In This? A fairly chilled out show this week because we went ghost hunting the day before and were up all night trying to see if there's a life after this one. Turns out there isn't. Anyway, we hope you enjoy listening to us babble on, don't know if it's the beer but we seem to do that rather a lot in this one. Enjoy!

  • As is fast becoming tradition, a single brewery provides both our beers. We're drinking Beautiful Daze and Otter Head from the Otter Brewery.

  • Promo - Fist Full Of Comics (and games).

  • Another show, another brainstorm. This time we create an antagonist, to pit against your characters.

  • Bumper - Chuck and Lonnie from The Dragon's Landing Inn Podcast.

  • Is this the final frontier? {Sigh - Ed.}. We talk about Free Enterprise - written, directed and produced by Robert Meyer Burnett and Mark A. Altman.

Greetings and welcome to show #11 of Does My Geek Look Big In This? We had lots of fun doing this one, and not a single technical hitch to report! 06/04/30 - Show #10: Icelandic Mythology Not Included

So, ten shows under our belt at last. It's been fun, that's for sure (and we're only just getting going!). Since last time there have been a few changes to the way we do the show, mostly in the gaming section and the bumpers (the intros to each section etc) - we hope you like it. We also get the chance to play you our new promo, which has already been picked up by several other podcasts! Anyway, enough banter, on with the entertainment.

06/04/16 - Show #9: Dragon's Breath And Avoiding Death

After a few technical hitches (What, us? Never!) we've finished show #9. It's got all the bits you've come to expect: beer, gaming, and of course films. It took us two days to record this particular show as our recording software suffered a major heart attack halfway through. Considering this happened after fighting with the hardware for three hours, it's not surprising that we gave up and finished the show the next day. Anyway, we hope you like the results.

  • We review a guest ale Dragon's Fire from J. W. Lees & Co and Tangle Foot from the Badger Brewery.

  • Promo - Geek Fu Action Grip.

  • Using a roleplaying system that includes the use of guns is always problematic. We talk about how to get round those problems, using our experiences with the Serenity RPG as a reference.

  • A truly remarkable film gets the treatment - Strings, directed by Anders Ronnow Klarlund.

06/03/30 - Show #8: Carcassonne In The West-Country

Well, we promised you a special show and here it is. We've spent the last week in rainy Dartmoor. So, armed with our trusty new iRiver MP3 recorder, some beer and a brand new game, we decided to record our first extra-studio show. Not only that but we've had a major change with the editing software, having swapped to Garageband, which Sarah has valiantly spent the last 24 hours teaching herself how to use (video iPod users - look out for the show piccy). Anyway, sit back, relax and enjoy the show!

  • We stick with our west-country theme, with the delights of Admirals Ale from the St Austell Brewery and Maltster's Ale from the Teignworthy Brewery.

  • Promo - Yog Radio.

  • We discuss a recent purchase, Carcassonne - Hunters and Gatherers, a tile based board game that offers strategic play without the long waits between turns.

  • Our attention turns towards the slightly surreal and spoofy D.E.B.S, written and directed by Angela Robinson.

06/03/11 - Show #7: Robots In Disguise

This is a slightly longer show than usual, owing mostly to the fact that we have no idea what we're doing. It's also rather quiet so watch those ears if you find yourself fiddling with the volume! Due to other commitments, the next show will not be available for 3 weeks, rather than the usual 2. But don't worry, we'll make it up with an extra special show next time around. Enjoy!

  • This week both beers come from the same place, Young's (Ram) Brewery in London. The first one we try is Special London Ale - a somewhat fruity concoction, which we put up against Kew Brew - its hoppy counterpart.

  • Promo - Spaceship Radio.

  • Quite a lot to talk about in the Gaming section this time around. As well as discussing some lessons learnt after playing through several sessions in our local Serenity RPG game, we also shamelessly tout the wares of our local gaming shop, Eclectic Games - newly opened last weekend.

  • It was inevitable really. Serenity, from the immensely creative mind that is Joss Whedon. You already know that we love it. But we've never said why.

06/02/25 - Show #6: Keira Knightley Vs General Zod

Welcome to another fortnightly installment of our show. We think we've finally found a recording setup that works and we're pretty pleased with the results. We hope you are too. This is the longest show to date, packed with lots of beer talk, gaming thoughts and of course the film review. Enjoy!

  • We pluck up the courage to try Nev's homebrew (despite the previous disaster) and see if it stands up against a professional product, Red Fox from Fullers Brewery.

  • Promo - Josh In Japan.

  • This one's for the players. Roleplayers can be a secretive bunch, so how do you go about finding new ones to game with? The process of character development gets a going over, along with a few hints and tips for those that find it particularly difficult.

  • Back to films this week and we're discussing the almost biographical works of Antoine Fuqua and his treatment of a real life hero in King Arthur - The Director's Cut.

06/02/11 - Show #5: Haggis And Weapon Toting Bunnies

Well we made it to our, landmark, 5th show. It's got all the usual stuff: beer, films/t.v talk and of course our regular look at the world of RPG's/games. Enjoy!

  • Today we find out why Haggis have two legs shorter than the others, whilst quaffing Haggis Hunter's Ale from The Harviestoun Brewery and Hop Drop by Darwin Brewery.

  • Promo - The Radio Adventures Of Dr. Floyd.

  • Killer Bunnies - the card game that allows the player to wield the awesome power offered by rabbits with nuclear weapons - gets a mention. We also discuss some of the finer points of the Serenity RPG combat system as part of our ongoing look at the game.

  • We're taking a departure from our usual films slot to talk about a T.V. series that we've been introduced to Dead Like Me is a relatively short series that follows the journey of a young woman as she struggles to find the 'life' in death.

06/01/28 - Show #4: Gaming Props And Cats Whiskers

So, equipment problems are (mostly) behind us and we're podcasting like good 'uns. We have new mics for this show, along with other miscellaneous pieces of kit which should help to better the quality of the audio. Which is good really, seeing as this is the longest show we've done thus far. We hope you enjoy it and don't forget, any comments can be emailed to us or posted on the 'ever so friendly' forum. Enjoy!

  • I think I have a drinking problem! {Yeah, you can't get enough - Ed.} Today we review Brakspears Organic Ale from Brakspear and Cats Whiskers by Whittingtons Brewery.

  • Promo - Dragon's Landing.

  • This show sees us talk about the use of props during roleplaying games and how a simple metal bucket can be put to good use during a Serenity RPG session.

  • Only one cinematic review this week; Underworld Evolution, directed by Len Wiseman. The film pits the immortal wit of vampires against the savage power of werewolves. It should be a winner, but does it have any...bite?

06/01/14 - Show #3.1: What Does This Button Do?

Phew!! This one has been a bit of a struggle. Equipment problems {Or rather, failure to understand the perfectly working equipment - Ed.} has meant a later than anticipated release for what was supposed to be show #3. Therefore, in an effort to maintain consistency we're releasing this as show #3.1. We've put show #3 in a small box and locked it tight so that it doesn't escape. This is our first outing with the improved equipment and we hope you enjoy the results as much as we enjoyed creating them.

05/12/20 - Show #2: The Secret To A Billionaires Lifestyle

Wow, we got to the second show! This time we've added a few extra bits and pieces such as promos and section introductions. We think it breaks up the format a little, making it slightly easier on the ear. But, as always, comments are welcome.

  • Drinking time again and today we review Black Sheep Ale from The Black Sheep Brewery and Bass Ale by Bass.

  • Promo - Dragon's Landing.

  • We take a look at the season 2 finale of Sarah's mage game - What was the concept of the campaign? Which bits were good and which bits were bad. Is it feasible to carry the concept across to other character classes such as fighters? We also take a quick look at an advert that made us laugh.

  • Promo - The Signal: Season 2.

  • Film of the week is The 13th Warrior, directed by John McTiernan. A good old fashioned yomp, made in 1999, in which a group of vikings is beset by a mysterious and ancient foe.

05/11/27 - Show #1: Films, beer and Serenity RPG

We made it! Show #1 finished and published! Up until a month ago we didn't know anything about podcasting. Nothing. Zip. We didn't have a website, or even know how to create a website. However, with the help of several kind and generous folk (Chuck and Lonnie from Dragon's Landing, Michael R. Mennenga from The Dragon Page, and The Kevolution from his own weird and wonderful world) and a lot of late nights we've finally finished.

It's been massive amounts of fun just getting this far and we hope that this will be the first of many shows. If you enjoy listening to it half as much as we enjoyed making it then you should have a good time. Anyway, all comments are welcome, if only to say hi, so send us your thoughts (email addy's can be found here). Take care and enjoy the ride.

  • A brief summary of the process of character generation within the Serenity Roleplaying Game.

  • It's drinking time and today we review The Green Man Organic Ale from supermarket chain, Waitrose and 80/- by Broughton Ales.

  • The Cat Returns by Hiroyuki Morita is an animated film released by Japanese animation house Studio Ghibli in 2002. But is it any good?
